A Pigment of My Imagination: Music Visualization
Before you are varying visual interpretations and graphic notations of one song. The song is called “Fire”, and is written and performed by 3LAU, Neonheart, and Said the Sky. This song happens to be one of my all time favorites, and is a flawless blend (in my personal opinion) of both EDM and acoustic genres. In addition to heavy bass, vocal chops and fast-paced drum beats, the song is filled with rich melodies that pull right at the heartstrings. I studied and broke down the composition by its lyrical, chord and compositional structure. Additionally, I used my personal experience of being a synesthete to create visual graphics in an abstract, experimental and experiential way. A constant theme that you will see throughout the body of work is the notion of time. When we listen to music, moments of instrumentation fill the atmosphere with beautiful frequencies, lyrics, and colors, one second after another. In addition to being a designer and visual artist, I am a professional songwriter, and am always amazed at the incredible amount of an impact one song can leave on the mind and soul. In both visual art and music, there is almost always an emotional reaction in response to the work that has been created. Influenced by Wassily Kandinsky, John Cage, Maria Tsirodimitri, SUNY Purchase alumni: Jax de Leon and more, i have portrayed how the song “Fire” can be broken down through varying degrees of notation.
